I'm looking to put a 5.25" component set and a set of 5x7's in my '96 4-door soon, and want to know the best speakers to get that would sound good off a fairly low amount of power. I'm leaning toward the new Infinity references, I would install Quarts or Kappas, but I've heard that they would require a pretty powerful aftermarket amp to realize their full potential. I will be bypassing the factory amp (I think)and running the speakers off a 45wx4 peak head unit. Or would I be better off leaving the factory amp hooked up and running the speakers off of that? Please don't tell me to get a new amp, I don't want to invest that much in a system, I just want to sound a bit better than factory. Thanks in advance.

the mbquart Qseries is very nice, but yer gonna be using a lot of power and $$ for them, if you want something a bit easier on the elements, look for the infinity kappa 5.25s, I've heard good things about them. as far as the factory amp, ditch it.. but try and get an afermarket 2 chan.. you won't need a lot of power, unless you get the mbqs.. then run something like 100 rms

Actually I asked a question like this earlier to get suggestions. Basically just listen to a bunch of different sets and decide what you think sounds best. It's all about personal preference. Some people want loudness, some want clairity, some want both. Decide what you wanna spend and start shopping. Just remember the front stage really is the heart of you speakers so go you the best you can afford.

Thats the ***** of it though: I've heard the Kappas a bunch of times, and love the sound, but in the store they've got them running off of a huge ass amp. I don't want to blow $400 on speakers and find out that I now need to blow another $400 (that I don't have) on a new amp. Whatever I get will be run off of either the factory amp or the head unit, whichever sounds better. I'm assuming that the head puts out more power, so I'll probably just disconnect the factory setup and run all new wires for the doors.
Thanks

Kappa's are much less than $400. I've seen them for half that. And you can get an amp for like $150 to power all 4 separates just fine. Check out http://www.tmselectronics.com. They've got tons of high quality stuff at prices best buy sells JVC and Jensen crap.
