Why is the 70 series so much more expensive than other mufflers? Logic would say simply because it's the best. (thats a joke, more expensive items are not always better)... but I would like to know why it's more than twice what I could get other mufflers for. Are there comparable mufflers sound wise to this by other brands?

Mostly because it's a larger muffler(more material) You can shop around and find a better price. I paid around $260 to have my 70 series muffler and 2.5" exhaust installed. So go to a good shop and get an estimate. It was worth it to me because the 40 series dumped that I put on myself was HELLA loud:D

It might take me awhile to find a legitimate exhaust shop here in Chicago. Dodgy corner muffler shops are a dime a dozen though. Summit has the above muffler for $130. Im having trouble thinking I could get the rest of the install/labor for just another $130.

Was the $260 you spent on your exhaust for press bent or mandrel bent pipes?

I think they press bent the pipes, but they do look pretty smooth on the bends(no heavy ripples). The shop I went to was recommended by a few people in town and they do a great job for a great price. All you can do is ask around at Auto stores and whatnot about who they recommend for doing your exhaust. Meet up with said people and see what kind of vibe they put off and how much they charge.

When I went to the shop that did mine, I told the guy I was nervous that a 70 might be too quiet. He gave me the keys to his truck and told me to drive it around and see what I thought because he had a 70 series on his! I was surprised because it was the first time I met him and not many people just give their car keys that don't know you. But it worked out and I loved the way it sounded.

i got the single in and dual out 40 series flowmasters on my 01 sport but eventually i am going to get true duals

think 40's might be a bit aggressive in the situation sam lol

Sam, if you still have your video clip of your truck. Post it so this guy can hear your exhaust.

Could you guys let me know which part number or muffler I need to order? I'm unsure on inlet/outlet configuration. Thanks.

thanks. didnt know if i needed offset or not. i'm going with the 70 series.

Ah Ha ! it seems that we have reached a contradiction sir...

now im second guessing myself... and i cant remember exactly what my FM 40 was ???

im going magnaflow this time so i know either way it will fit regardless what side i use as the inlet or outlet, because the design is straight thru, which i one perk i am a big fan of

part number 12256 ( 2.5'' inlet/outlet ) for anyone interested after i get it installed with a video...

ideally it will be installed by the 1st week of april by the latest...

I need to make a new idle/rev video of my 70 series because I think I make it out to be quieter than it really is. For example, I have mentioned that I am hearing impaired(80%loss) and just this morning, my GF started the Ex up to go to work. Our room is above the garage, to the back. I could easily hear her start it up and drive off with NO hearing aids in. In other words, it's not that quiet:D
