I bought two 40 series single in/single out Flowmaster mufflers from Summit for $60ea, then had a local muffler shop weld them in and install some 2 1/2" pipes with 3 1/2" chrome tips. The pipes and welding cost $100 and the tips were $30, so total was $250. Since I still have all my converters its not too loud. It has a low rumble at idle and sounds awesome when you get on it. If you want something a little quietr, go with the 50 series. Its a 3 chamber muffler instead of a 2. The delta flow is quieter than the non delta flow. I doubt that there will be much difference in the dual in/out vs 2 single in/out. I got a better deal on 2 single in/out than 1 dual in/out. I have some exhaust pics in a link in my sig.

nice, this is what i was looking for

wow man you have a great ex
im going to get the 50 series but have no clue if which one is better the suv series or the delta....
anyway thanks for the help man...

and do you know where they sell some cheap mufflers, any website that you recomend....

thx for the help man

it depends on if yours is a v8 or a v6.
i dont recomend duals on a v6.
if its a v8 i would get two single in/out mufflers with 2.5" pipe.
if its a six I would get a single dual in/out muffler.

errr typo..... if it was a 6 and you really wanted duals i would get a single in/dual out muffler. with 2.25 inch pipe

thanks man for the info...

but one question would i loose hp or torque if i put two single in/single out rather than single in/ dual out?

whats the difference between both

i own a 98 ex xlt v6 sohc 4.0L

any recomendations for a brand of muffler or is the flowmaster the top of the line?

it doesnt relly matter...you may lose some torque/hp but it will still be a gain over stock.. do you have dual in pipes or are you a single in pipe? the deltas are very quiet... the suv series was designed for trucks....

Go to www.summitracing.com and search for these part numbers. The single in/dual out part number is FLO-525552, the dual in/out is FLO-524554, and the single in/out is FLO-325508

if you have the 4.0 i wouldnt get the two single in single out. i would get a single in dual out. you will loose a little torque with 2 mufflers and it will be alot quieter.

hey jim, why did you put a tail pipe on?

JIM!!

as far as i know i have a single pipes cuase the former owner was not into modding....

anyway i think i might just stick with single in/dual out.....

thanks for the info fellas

what i meant was single or dual inlet pipes? i remeber seeing a newer model explorer with to input pipes.... it may have been on the v8 mountaineer though.....

The SOHC and V8 has a dual in, single out muffler stock.

Anyone know if a 40 series Flowmaster fits okay on a 94? I am planning on replacing cat with one single high flow as well. Looking for sound and power!

the SUV flowmaster from summit racin will fit. just get the single in/ singe out.

the 40 fits fine... that is what i have on my 94
