HI all. I know I could go hog wild with boxes and amps, etc. but what I want to do is keep everything stock except for replacing the speakers with better ones.

I have the stock 8" sub in the back and would like to replace it with something better sounding but running off the factory amp.

Also would like to replace the door speakers especially in the front and get a set with separate tweets to mount on the pillars. All I want is just better sound.

The only aesthetic mod I might do is cover the stock plastic tan grills with black cloth. Otherwise, I don't want to draw attention, just want everything look stock but enjoy better sound.

Any experiences along this line of thought is greatly appreciated. Sorry I'm not into adding the most, the biggest and top-end expensive audio gear inside but I do value all your opinions.

Thanks, AC

It is definitely possible, though I hear the new sound systems are quite good. but I wouldn't know for sure. I hear it's easy to replace the sub as well, if you wanted. With a little work, you can put a 10 in there too. I think there's only a few watts on the sub amp, so if you find something with a high sensitivity for an 8", you might get a little better response.

stock audio but better speakers

Thanks Jon,

You're right about the stock stereo sounding good, it does...just wanted a little more highs in the front and a little more oomph in the sub. I'll look for a 10 I can fit back there though and a set of inexpensive Pioneers with tweets in the front.

if you want good sound, dont get a cheapo 3-way. i've heard from a lot of installers that the tweeters in cheap 3-ways brands, like pioneer, are crap. for not too much you could get an ok component set for the front which would sound way better. it really depends what you want to spend. pioneer 2-ways arent that bad, howeve.

as for the sub, you really wont get much from a different sub. as JTang said, a 10 might get you better resoponse, but as far as the brand of sub, it wont really matter.

hope that helps at all, and good luck,

Yeah, I know you get what you pay for but I just happened to see a set of Pioneeers at Sears (of all places) that had separate tweets for $70. The PolK set I saw elsewhere were $220 and I need money for my lift and tires.

I'm going to tear into the rear to see if I can fit a 10.

Really bummed now because when I traded my sports car in, I had all the Infinity tweets, subs, mids, etc and the deal for my X went down so quickly, I didn't have time to yank at least my tweets. ...miss that sound.

Thanks for the tips again.
