Big rims=big problems

So I bought a set of 22's fro my wifes 07 mounty for her bday in may. About a month later we noticed the tranny was shifting wierd but I think its always shifted like crap. Well it only got worse and then we heard vibrations and wierd noices. Put the stock rims back on and all is well. Can anything be done to run bigger rims and has anyone else experienced this?

First off are all the tires the same brand? Are they new? Are they balanced correctly? Also another problem I see with aftermarket wheels is people don't get them to fit tight to the center of the hubs. You may need to get hub centric rings to help center the wheels on the hubs.

They were all balanced but 1 tire had a slit so I did replace it but it was a different tire but the same size.

The AWD system on Explorers are very picky regarding tire size and even tire wear. If the tires aren't all relatively the same size then the computer thinks that tire slip is occurring like what can happen in snow or mud. This causes the four wheel drive to kick in and on dry pavement this can cause symptoms like you describe. This can be caused by something as little as the difference in diameter between a well worn tire and a new one. The difference in the outside diameter between the two can be great enough to fool the computer into engaging the four wheel drive system. My guess is that the stock tires are all relatively the same diameter and doesn't cause the problem. It is good you swapped tires because this can cause damage to the transfer case that can be expensive to repair.
