I looked around and found nothing. I got my new BBK TB and MAF Friday, and it has a strange coating around the edge of the butterfly and TB housng where the butterfly meets the housing(Closed). The warning says not to remove the coating but I think they are talking about the boare coating, not this strange black stuff. Anybody know what that is?

Sounds like carbon to me. I don't think that'll have any effect on your performance, you can clean it as long as you don't use anything to scrape the butterfly.

No its not carbon. It came that way brand new straight out of the box. I just put this thing on Friday. It looks like someone put it there with a little brush. Wierd. It looks like black RTV.

Oh that's weird. I never bought my BBK new so I wouldn't know. I assume that's the coating then.

It doesn't look right and I'm temped to take it off. Its on the back side of the butterfly only. Maybe some kind of shipping stuff?

e mail the makers of the TB and ask them wtf it is before u go taking it off.just incase lol

Yea but where's your sense of adventure? Besides, maybe it will make my truck idle like its got a big cam.

If it doesn't peel off like a sticker then I'll bet that's the coating. I honestly don't remember any black backing on either of my BBK TB's.
