I just put a set of XD Hoss wheels with tires on layaway. They are black with Terra Grappler tires. I have had the Grapplers on my old truck and they worked out well in the snow.

Living in WI they use a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. I put money down on the wheels I asked how the black wheels would hold up to the salt on the roads. I was told they would be fine and they hold up better then chrome or polished. And as long as I washed them they would be fine. Has anyone exposed their black wheels to road salt? Opinions?

Thanks
Eric

I would suggest putting a good coat of wax on them. Inner and outer wheel. Most wheels will start peeling from the back (hence the neglected area) and work there way to the front. Wash really good with soap and water. Just water will actually inhibit or re activate the salt and cause more corrosion.

I'm trying black painted wheels this winter, as only one year with chrome wheels in a hostile environment has them already bubbling, despite a mad dash to get them waxed up before the serious stuff hit. Wish I could have powder coated them but that will have to wait for another season. The alternative was polished aluminum in the same style which I suspect would have been savaged by all the crap they throw on the roads here.

I am anxious to get them on, but I just might wait til spring
