This reminds of the time I steam (vaccuum) cleaned my carpet. When I was done the inside of my truck smelled like fresh laundry for a week. Not the new car scent but it was pretty cool, I thought.
Bleach all of the carpet in the same random pattern that you have in the original stain. Then take a picture of it, send it in to one of those "Rice Rocket" magazines. Hopefully they will publish it and overnight you will have started a trend. Every "Rice Rocket" owner will be running down to the supermarket to buy bleach. Once it is a fad, your call will look normal again.
I would assome that on a newer veh. you would have "comprehensive" coverage on your insurance policy. This is a proper claim for comp.
Just turn it in....
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it everytime you use your car insurance company's money your insurance premium go up? On this case, it might not be wise to go through the insurance for $150 fix.
You can try patching the carpet but it's not recommended for someone who hasn't done it before. I've done it before but then again I install carpet for a living.
i'm 99% positive that a dye will not take unless you neutralize the bleach. my uncle has a carpet cleaning company and he dyes carpets, and you first have to get "bleach neutralizer" for the dye to be able to set in. unless it will pop right out. i'm not sure about a spray, but for dyeing, it will need to be neutralized.
I say learn to live with it. It's the cheapest way to deal with the situation. Of course it's not going to look pretty, but it'll save you money and effort. Start to worry about fixing it once you're looking to sell. And if your X turns into a beater over time, I doubt some cheap ass is going to worry about the bleached carpet if the rest of the car has gone to hell.
Shhh!!! in tech school, my roomie spilled some bleach on our carpet. The TI`s would have been less than thrilled to find it when they did room inspections, I can only imagine the commanders reaction when he would do his inspections. Anyways all the bleech spots dissappeared thanks to a little thing I like to call a Magic Marker. It was blue carpet, so I just bought a black one and a blue one, and the colrs when mixed a little were spot on.
