bleeding power steering fluid

i'm trying to figure out what kind of power steering fluid do i need for my 2001 ford explorer sport trac. Is it Mercon ATF (I think this is transmission fluid) or do I just do a search for power steering fluid for my vehicle. According to other posts, I'm suppose to use Mercon ATF... so basically, am I putting transmission fluid in my power steering reservoir?

And when I bleed the power steering, do i leave the truck running with the cap off the reservoir at the same time? thanks in advance

P/S fluid is Mercon ATF as the owners manual specifies and you have read. (Page 233)

thanks for the reply. Yes I have the link of the manual saved. I just found it odd that I put transmission fluid in the power steering reservoir. I'm actually just trying to bleed it, not flush
