blend door fix?

I have the common blend door problem on my 2002 exlorer xlt. I was wondering if anyone had heard of or tried the heater treater fix that they sell on ebay. if it works i would rather cut a hole under my dash and save 500 bucks than have a dealer do it. thanks for any help.

Welcome aboard. Are you sure it's the blend door and not the actuator that is your problem? Seem to get a lot more of those than the door itself on these Gen 3s.

Someone posted a link to heatertreater a while ago here and as I remember that is the steel door to replace the plastic one? I remember thinking that if the plastic door can strip out the gears in the actuator than a steel one would likely do it much faster. Dunno though.
