Blend Door Heating Issue

What tells the blend door to open and close

Ok so I finally opened up my blend door to find that it actually DOES move.

However, after a while it moves back and forth and eventually opens up and stays open even when I have the heat on and blows cold air. So it actually moves but whatever is telling it to open and close is telling it the wrong things.

What would cause it to do that and is there anyway to keep it closed even if it's moving?

Anyone know what tells the actuator motor to open and close as that seems to be my problem.

Seems like the temperature selector knob (the one with the blue and red) might be getting hot. I'll take it out and see if there's a short. Would that be a possible solution?
