So after reading all of the threads regarding the blend door problem, I was just wondering if there was a way to prevent it from breaking? Does the door break when you over extend the temperature knob?

Mine is in perfect working order and I would like to keep it that way. Any suggestions for preventative care?

The problem doesn't have anything to do with the temperature knob as the blend door is electrically controlled. It'll only move so far one way or the other.

From what I've read the problem seems to be the plastic dries out because of the heat from the heater core. I'm guessing the reason why I've never had this problem is because when the selector switch is in MAX A/C or OFF the system closes the valve to the heater core, and so there isn't any heat. I always use the MAX A/C mode so I guess that's saved it some. Clearly when the heater is on it's going to get hot in the plenum, but I don't use the heater often so it isn't a real big deal to me.
