blend door problem

2002 Explorer XLT-50,000 miles-v6
Constant clunking from behind the dash when I tried to change temperature.
Took to the shop and they said blend door and actuator.........wanted $1,056 + tax.
I can't pay that........
does anybody know if this blend door fix works on the 2002 models??

Haven't heard of anyone doing it on a model that late, but it may work. It wouldn't take very long to pull the glove compartment and see if the actuator looks the same.

I work for a dealer, and have yet to see a climate control problem on 3rd gen.

very simple i am in the process of doing the same thing on my 2002..
first remove the center console 15 minutes at the most...
remove the trim under the bottom of the steering colum.
remove the left lower air duct and the cross piece metal bracket...
then you can see the actuator and 3 screws 8 mm one with a socket and 2 with a small wrench.. i took mine out took apart and gear was stripped. ford ordered me the wrong part and i am still waiting for the correct one.. tuesday they are telling me...

I have the same problem on my 96'. Does the heater box have to be removed to repair the door?
