My explorer 4.0 has been outta commision for some time now due to blown head gaskets, it overheated and there was coolant in my oil. Right now when I start it, it sounds like its running ok but it smokes out the tail pipe. Someone mentioned trying block sealer on it. I was wondering if anyone had any experience using this and how it worked out for you. Also how would I be able to tell if my truck is running good enough to drive after using it.

the installer at my shop used it on his sunfire and it's been doing fine for the past 15,000 miles.

i was going to try it on my explorer (same situation as you). i'll let you know if there are any problems.

I jsut used some on my step moms sentra, very sweet smell form exhaust, and white smoke. Put a bottle of barrs block sealer $12.00 at autozone and within 24 hours, all was good. No overheating, no white smoke, and no sweet smell.

Works very well imo.

my dad used it on a older grandprix my sister was using. i would say if the car doesn't have alot of value to it (aka don't use in a new mint condition car) go for it.

Just make sure you know how these things work. You are basically flooding the system with little metal shavings that will lodge themselves into the "hole", thus blocking the leak. If said hole is too big shavings maybe able to pass right through.

If you are going to try this take your time and do it right. I think it took my dad 2 days to flush the system out and add the bars and reflush again to his satisfaction. it did fix the problem however.

update:

it worked great on my explorer (and my explorer's engine was in some rough shape). before i did this there were lots of thick white clouds pouring from the exhaust. now there is nothing. it did take 2 days, but it was worth it. i didnt think it would work so well.
