Everything is torn apart...if anyone can post some help that would be great. I got the blower motor out no problem but I can't get the squirrel cage off to put on the new motor...NO IDEA how to get it off. It just had a little washer that slid over the top of the shaft and it crumbled...no recessed allen screws or nada.

Spray some penetrating oil on the the pole, and slowly pull up, it sort of fused it's self on there with rust. Use both hands, pull up, and the switch doing this in a plus pattern so that it is pulled off evenly. don't be impatient and break, or crack it. all after market ones are generic, and don't fit right.

Thanks for the response dude - I got it figured out. I sprayed some PB blaster on the shaft and let it sit for a couple hours. Came back and had my son grab the motor housing and pull. It slid a little, then I turned it over and pressed it back down...pulled again. Sprayed more PB on it and continued to work it until final off it came! I had to go down to Ford and buy the retainer water that slides on top of the cage over the shaft. The old one broke taking it off, but the part was discontinued. thanks Ford. Luckily...the one from a 2001 matched my 97 perfectly and for $6.50 I walked out a happy man.

My new blower motor came with one... kinda pricey for a $.50 piece, mine like yours just busted off.

I replaced mine and turned it on. The squirrel cage shattered inside . Now my hvac only works with window vents. No access vents or floor. I've tried to reach the pieces but cannot. Most sites say one must disassemble the complete dash to reach. Any work around? Thanks for any help you can provide.
