Blower motor on our 1995 Ford Explorer quit working all of a sudden. It won't even work on high. Checked the fuse on the side dash and the 50-amp under the hood fuse block plus we even replaced the blower motor with no success. The motor works if we supply the negative to it. Any suggestions? A relay? A lost ground? The resistor unit even though it doesn't work on high either?? Please help. Thanks, Kevin.

It would appear that you need to check your highspeed motor relay in relay box #2... it provides the path to ground for the motor in the high speed mode. In the other modes, when the relay is not operating, the grounds are "passed" by the resistor block (which appears to have a thermal limiter - fuse????) and the fans switch. When you switch your fan switch to high, the high speed relay should pull up... if not, then it is perhaps faulty or the fan switch is faulty... it provides the grd to pull up the relay.

Is the blower motor relay box on the driver's side fender area attached to the side wall beside the battery?

In 96, its under the air intake filter on the right front side.... I assume 95 is the same. Further on my first post, the fan switch is used to pass a grd to the high speed relay. Check the R/O for grd at the switch and at the resistor block.

Under the air intake filter on the right side? So when I stand in front of the vehicle it will be on the right hand side around the battery area (driver's side) or on the opposite side (passenger side)? Do I need to move or remove anything to get to it? Can you explain exactly how to get to it and what it looks like. I'm having so much trouble. Thanks so much!

no, no.... in NA.... the driver's side is the left hand side of the vehicle and the passenger's side is the right hand side.... not how you are looking at the vehicle. You should see a small black box (3 inches by 8 inches just under the filter intake. It is likely you need to remove the filter housing to get good access. I haven't ever removed mine but can see it. Hope it helps.

Finally freaked out & took it in to the Ford dealer. Oh no.

They said it's the "fan controller". What in the world is that?
Atleast $280.00 to fix.

Is this a Limited or Eddie Bauer with EATC or is it regular A/C? (EATC is the system where you have a temperature setting on the dash and push buttons to move the temperature up and down).

If it's EATC, the fan controller module is about $120 just for the part. If not EATC, the resistor is cheaper - like $15? It probably took me an hour or two to replace the EATC fan controller module - you have to splice a new connector onto the existing wiring, and the module is kind of a pain to get to.
