99 Explorer Sport
i own a 99 explorer sport. Last night i ordered the performance accessories 3 inch lift (kit #883). is there anything else that i need to order to complete the install? IE... steering shaft extension or does the one that comes with the kit fit? Also i ordered Warrior shackles (part # 153) and the pro comp add-a-leaf kit. Is there anything else that you guys would recommend on getting. my x already has a brush guard, tail light guards, 6 KC light, custom roof rack, and OME shocks. In the works is a custom skip plate and 33x12.50 goodyear MTR on 16x8 or 16x10 Mickey thompson rims, and upgraded gears to 4.56 or 4.88. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

The body lift comes with everything you need. You may need to get two more 140mm bolts to polish it off though.

Also, you cannot use add-a-leafs on a Sport. Did you get the 13120 aal kit?

If your 99 is the same as mine you will have to grind your steering shaft a little because it was to big to fit into the steering extension that comes with the kit. Your also going to have to make your own custom rear bumper brackets because the ones that come with the kit dont work, I had to also cut a little notch out of the bottom of the bumper to make it fit. And your also gonna have to loose your brushguard cause it wont work with a body lift.

What about shift linkage?
Auto or standard?
I needed an extension for my shifter on my manual, it didn`t come with the kit I got.
I imagine something has to be rigged up if it`s an auto.
I used the steering extension they gave me with my 2 inch PA kit, and it worked okay.

Start spraying down your bolts with WD40 or a liquid wrench type stuff now, for less headaches later.

The ad a leafs will not work on your sport. The sport uses a mono leaf spring. The steering extension will work with a little modification. You will need to fabricate rear bumper brackets. The body bolts are tough to remove. I recomend PB to spray them with for a long time prior to the install. Like once a day for a week. The auto shifter works fine just follow the directions cloisely.

Yeah the aal's won't work with a mono leaf. If you want though you can goto the junk yard and get a set of 4-door leaves. Shouldn't cost too much i wouldn't think

good luck

well ok since i do have the door model and dont know what you guys are talking about that the aal wont work on the mono spring can anyone explain this for me and is there an aal that will work for the x sport.

the addaleaves are designed to increase the arch in a multi-leaf setup. I don`t know much about the sport myself, maybe someone else has an option?

AAL are meant to be sandwiched in between two leafs in your leaf pack, thats how they provide the lift. They rearch your leaves to the arch of the AAL. Since sports have a mono-leaf setup(only one leaf) there is nothing to sandwich the AAl in between.

Snafu,
Basically you need to swap out your mono leaf springs for a multi leaf pack to use add-a-leafs. You can buy brand new ones from Ford or Old man emu, or get some junkyard springs. If you've got the loot, I'd go with OME 2" lift springs and bypass the add-a-leaf process all together, not to knock anyone with add-a-leafs. If you find in a few months after the install that you want a little more hight in the rear, then swap the stock shackles for the warriors. TT in the front and a 3" body lift will clear the size tires you want. You will have to do some modification to the lift kit and bumpers to make everything look stock again. Plus trim the inner fender walls to get enough turning radius without major rubbing. It gets pretty expensive if you have to pay someone to do it too. Hope that helps!
