Hey Y'all I have a 94 Ex bone stock and I am planning out the mods I want to do. I would like some oppinions on doing a body lift in the explorer I have mixed feelings, I realy dont like the "sway" you get from body lifts but for some of my Ideas for the truck am extra couple of inches undernieth would be nice. I am also concearne of tranny issues (auto) from shifter linkage being off. Any comments would be great

Thanks

Instead of a body lift why not a spacer/shackle lift?

I went with the PA 2" BL because I got it on sale for $80. I went with the 2" cause I didn't want to deal with the steering extension and things like that. It depends on why you need the extra room. For me it was mainly to fit larger tires, and my X mainly stays on the road :( . I experinced no body sway as you mentioned and infact I didn't notice the truck handled any diffrent with the BL. At first you do notice you sit a little higher but that went away after a day or two. My only problem was that since my X is a 5spd the stick is now too low for my liking and I had to modify the shift boot. But beware the BL does take a full day to install in a basic garage

I am planning to go up 5.5" in the suspension, the BL would'nt be for Tire clearance per say. I am more interested in the room between the body and the frame for some fabrication ideas I have

Well if you are interested in clearance between the body and the frame... Then a BL is about the only way you are going to accomplish that.

I'd say do it.

I put on a 3" body lift and never had a problem with the shifter linkage. I just went right back on. I did however have a problem removing the parking brake cable, so out of frustration I just cut it off. The only other problem I had was the fan shroud because I forgot to unscrew that before lifting the body, did the entire job then went to try and move that and it was stuck where it was and a pain the the butt to move since now the tranny cooler lines were pretty much stretched to their limit.

i am thinking about a 3" BL too, and all the sights that i've seen selling them tell me you NEED to buy the extra shifter linkage... is that a have to part or is it to put the shifter at normal height??

i doubt i will spend a super lot of time off-road but i deffinatlly will at least 2-3 times a month i'm sure.... the BL for me will be pretty much for tyres and for that agressive look....same reason i'll leave the mud on it ;)

With the issues I have heard about with the Tranny Linkage I would say it's a definate NEED.

if your not a fan of body lifts.. just get the 2 inch. i have a 2inch on mine, handling is alot different, but i also have suspension mods and bigger tires.

one day when i put in some REAL suspension(and not just suspension mods) i'll probly remove the body lift to keep the COG down. However, 2 inches isn't a whole lot and i may just keep it.

body lifts arent the devil like some people make them out to be, but i don't think anyone will argue that all suspension lift is definitely better.

Have you had any tranny shifting issues? and did the kit come with any linkage extensions?
