I AM HAVING A VERY FRUSTRATING TIME WITH THIS SUCKY T CASE. MY 92' XLT WILL NOT ENGAGE 4X4. I HAVE CHECKED LITTLE THINGS LIKE FLUID LEVELS OF BOTH T-CASE AND DIFFERENTIALS. NOTHING THERE. I AM HOWEVER HEARING A NOISE IN THE BACK WHEN I PUSH THE 4X4 BUTTON BUT NOT WHEN I PUSH THE LOW RANGE. I GUESS THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT CONTROL MODULE. A LITTLE RED LIGHT FLASHES AND THEN GOES AWAY AFTER MAYBE 5 SECONDS. I HAVE ALSO CHECKED FOR FAULTY CONNECTIONS BUT THAT HASNT WORKED EIGTHER. I AM WONDERING IF IT IS TIME TO REBUILD THE TRANSFER CASE OR JUST TIME TO CHANGE THE MODULE. EIGTHER WAY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE PRICE OF SERVICE OR REPLACEMENT. I REALLY HATE HAVING THE THING NOT WORK. ANY SUGGESTIONS, IDEAS AND/OR PRICES ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Try tapping on it:D

Yup, grab yourself a rubber mallet and give the transfer case motor a couple of good hits. It's pretty common for them to get stuck with age. Also, you are shifting into neutral to engage low range, right?

Also, if you do much 4x4ing, depending on what terrain
you are going through, might be time to change the
fluid in it. I know I gotta change mine every month just
about because of the harsh glacial silt I suck up all
the time. Well, I dont HAVE to, but it helps keep the
truck healthy and happy :D though I doubt this would
solve your problem, might stop it from getting stuck
so easily (which does sound like your problem).

But yeah, give it a few wacks with a mallot, nothing hard,
you are not playing baseball, but enough to get it to
get unstuck if that be the problem.

THanks for the input I am going to go whack the damn thing right now. Tell you all how it goes!

Later Days:p :p :p

I have the manual shifting transfer case and it has been working fine. This last weekend I was wheelin on the sand down in Rocky Point and ever since the 4x4 light stays on when I am at low speed and flickers when I am accelerating then turns off when I am on the freeway.
It is not in 4 wheel drive but why would the light still be on?
I have tried backing up for a bit, the hubs are both dissengaged but it still comes on.

I should start my own thread but was wondering if I could get the answer here.

Are you sure you have a 44-05?

I thought the 91-94's came with BW 1354's

Did you check all the wires and motors? With the
push button, its all electronic, and those buttons power
a little motor that changes you from 2x4 to 4x4,
4H to 4L

Well, check this little thing out, might give you some
ideas:

Dead Link Removed

Your not doing a mod, but might give you an
idea of where to look and what to check?

Dunno, thats my last idea.

Hope you get it working

A BOGNER WARNER?

I thought it was a Borg Warner 1354
