Hi all. Just gone out to start my car (cold and frosty morning) and there was a tremendous bang and smoke from under the hood! On exploration (no pun intended) I found my airbox lid blown to bits. It did start afterwards but I didn't like the mess. Any clues?

Did the truck start up then the BANG happened?

I am totally guessing here but maybe ice formed and some how sealed all the vent holes in the air box. The engine ran just long enough to create a large vacume, and the box was fragile enough due to the cold that it imploded?

WIERD.

Apparently it reached about -5 cel. It blew on the starter before firing up, scary I can tell you! I spent the day glueing and taping the thing back together until I can get a replacement. It run OK today though.

Are you running Gasoline or LP gas? Several UK members that have converted to LP gas have reported various backfires (rare) that have caused various results such as yours.

LPG. You have to be the Queen or some member of the elite to afford to run on gas over here, it's just been raised to £1 a litre which equates to around 9 dollars a gallon!!!

I assumed as such.. just didn't want the rest of the members in this thread thinking this problem was common in gasoline engines.
