So.. I'm resigned that the current software is never going to allow the full functionality of the MFT and NAV systems to start up immediately. Perhaps a future software update will, though I doubt it.

I suggest this:

Remote start should begin the boot up process. It's silly that you start the thing and have it warm up or cool down and then it only begins the boot up when you get in and push the start button again with your foot on the brake. Time wasted that could have been used leading to immediate frustration.

There should be a way to keep it booted up. Say you're like me and you're in and out of the car all day long, constantly using the nav system. It's impractical to wait it out, no matter how fast they claim it works or does work in the future. I'm usually half way to where I'm going by the time it gets up and running (If it actually does run, which now it's not doing at all). The whole point is to actively have the system reroute you around bad traffic. I mostly know where I'm going, but the whole point of this is to give you an edge over the road in congested city traffic.

It should have an option to keep the Nav system up and running on battery power, with the car off, for an extended time. Maybe put a timer on it. I don't know. It should be something you actively choose, so you don't inadvertently run down your battery, but it should be an option for heavy users that are moving from place to place. It's silly to be forced to leave the car running for twenty minutes at idle to avoid the perilous boot up, or rather "boot maybe" to avoid this.

This would be an easy thing to program into the system. It may resolve a lot of frustration by heavy users. The very users that likely bought this car BECAUSE of the wish for this system to work as advertised.

I didn't want this to get buried in the feature suggestion thread, as I think this could really solve a lot of problems. That horrible Microsoft software just doesn't seem to work right without a lengthy boot up process. It feel like any early attempt to input commands, including HEAT AND AC can trip the thing up and make it go haywire. This is unacceptable.

Ford, please fix this.

P.S. If you live in the country and program your system for the occasional trip to the city or vacation, then you will never experience the frustrations that someone in a densely populated area that needs to find their way around will. There is no need to chime in here. We get it. You love it and think it's a neat gizmo when you mess with it. There are those of us that really rely on this tech to do our jobs. People in the field for whatever reason. We want this to be useful and not frustrating. It simply does not work the way that it should.

I think the instant on/sleep mode idea is brilliant and could solve 50-75%% of the issues people are having today. I find using MFT before it becomes stable (about 2 minutes for mine on ver 2.7) is asking for trouble, and at the very least frustrating while the system continues to boot up.

I think a software update that turns off the screen, turns systems off (like A/C-Heat, audio speakers) while leaving the electronics on for a configured amount of time would solve many of the issues we are seeing today for heavy users and novices alike. Also, it would help Ford and Microsoft focus on bugs issues like phone interface, Nav issues after stablizing, and things don't ever work as intended.

I live in a big city and use my MFT alot. Except for the boot up time/stabalization issue, my MFT has worked very well with only a few small issues. But, this idea could be a real step forward in making MFT much more reliable and useful for many EX owners.

my 97 limited had remote start and if you were jumping out of the car for a sec you could leave it running with the remote start and take the key. Has anyone tried this with the 11's yet?? If it works the same, and logan, if you get out the car for just a sec throughout the day, maybe that will work for u?? no, maybe?? just a sugestion......

After reading this post, I just went out with a stop watch to see how long it takes to boot up. The MFT came up in 13 seconds and the Nav completed loading at the 25 second mark. I'm very satisfied with this and I'm on V2.4. I don't know why I would need it to be any quicker.

Yes, you can leave it running with the key in your pocket and away from the car. Stopping for 10-20 minutes at a time and leaving it running is pretty wasteful and really cuts into your mileage. Although, I've been doing it to keep from risking system failure while I have passengers in the car. Nuts.

If I were you, I would steer clear of any updates until something big comes with features you can't live without and you get solid positive reports. Sounds like your Ex is working like it should. There are a few of us that are jealous.

gotcha, it was just a thought.

Loganfilm,

Based on some of your replies to the threads in this forum, I know your frustrated in how long the NAV takes to boot up. I have MFT ver2.8, and although there is a delay, it's acceptable for me, but if I was using it for business as you are, it would likely drive me nuts as well.

I've noticed that the main screen can be turned on (without the engine running or in acc mode) by hitting the "power" button on the centre radio knob. One possible solution for you (and I know it's a bit of a work around), is when you shut your car off, open the door so everything powers down, and then power back up the radio etc using the "power" button. When you get back in your vehicle, the system should still be on, and you simply start the car (which does not cycle MFT on-off) and your good to go.
