I have performed the VTA mod noted here. It's been that way for well over a year now. On the highway, I'm noticing an issue that's getting worse. As the vehicle is pulling up a grade - even a slight one - the turbos seem to be leaking boost. You hear a shhhhhhh coming from the engine, which I know that it's the turbo leaking the boost off. Now, if I jab the throttle just a bit, it closes, what I assume is the wastegate, and that shhhhhh goes away. Then, as the engine settles and pulls again, it goes through that same cycle - shhhhhh, stab the throttle just a bit; closes the wastegate and it goes away.

What stands out to me is that it's becoming more frequent - the regularity with which it occurs. Almost to the point it's now happening on a flat road surface. I am concerned about taking it to the dealer as I'm sure they are going to kick me around about doing the mod. I really can't it back to stock because then you can't hear the condition. So, I'm chasing my tail a bit.

Has anyone else had this happen? What is going on and what did you do to fix it?

Thanks!

The waste-gate on the 3.5 ecoboost begins opening at 5psi Not completely open, but beginning to open. I only assume that this is to ensure consistent boost up to the 10psi max.

BTW, the 3.5 eco that is in the F150 uses different snails (Borg Warner vs. Garrett) and develops 14psi.

Common for these to develop leaks in all of the turbo intake components. Make sure all the joints are tight.

So...? Are you saying this is normal? Why is it becoming more apparent as time goes on?

I did check that - good call. A couple I could turn the screw maybe half a turn but not more. I feel like they were already tight...
