The grommet for the vacuum line on my brake booster deteriorated a couple of years ago. In the interim I've patched with sealant, caulk, GOOP, etc. Eventually the patch cracks and I have to add something else. Has anyone replaced this grommet and where did the replacement come from?

I remember getting one from Checker in the "Help!" brand of odds and ends made by Dorman. I remember seeing a link to Dorman's catalog once, but I don't remember where. It's a common line of parts at many auto parts stores, ask around and see what you can find.

Thought I would share with people that I had a severely cracked grommet on the brake booster valve and I got a replacement at NAPA for about $8.50. It came with a new valve and grommet, both are exactly the same. The valve is made in Mexico while the rubber is made in the USA. The part number for my 1991 was UP 89000 and can be seen here:

Here you can see my old one (bottom) and the new one (top):

Hopefully this helps someone out.

Thanks for updating this thread. I've been thinking about replacing mine for the last year because it seems looser than it should be.

I would if I were you. $8.50 is dirt cheap and you get a new valve which is a safety feature. It's tough for me to say for sure but it seems like the brakes were more responsive and the transmission shifted better due to the proper vacuum. It might have just been that the engine was warm too. When I put the new grommet and valve in, it's very stiff and has a snug seal. It's tough to rotate the valve in the booster housing.

Not to mention, that valve & grommet have a lifetime warranty at NAPA. Might be something to change out regularly.

I’m trying to locate the part for my 2000. NAPA says 89000 doesn’t fit.
