Can someone explain to me the purpose of these on the brake caliper.....they appear to just float in there. I know they serve a purpose, but I just don't know.

Thanks in advance.

They are what keeps the caliper onto the caliper bracket. Without them, the caliper assembly (with pads) can be pulled out tangentially from the rotor. They float because not all rotors are the same (and is why rotors can be "resurfaced") and sometimes rotors warp so the caliper needs to be able to move in/out.

That makes sense, thanks a bunch!
