I'M trying to decide what brake controller to get... Im pulling a trailer thats gonna weight about what my Explorer is rated for... I've pretty much ruled out 'Time Controlled' incase i need to make a sudden stop... I can't decide between a proportional or inertia one... Dexter 3x2 was at a decent price.. Tekonsha Prodigy looks decent... Found one for 98 which seems to be more expensive then the Dexter... I can't figure out which way to lean.... I was thinking of getting with a manual lever for sway but I guess i could just hit the brakes.... I seen some pretty cheap ones like a reese brakeman.. But i dunno which way to lean!!!! Helpeme out!!!!

I've heard lots of good things about the Tekonsha Prodigy on RV forums.

The time delay should be fine as long as your controller is within reach. You can manually activate the trailer brakes at any time on mine, I use it in hard stop sometimes. Otherwise, I've gotten used to how it works and turn it up and down in different conditions.

All my family has always run tekonsha with not problems, being from hickville america all the farmers around home run tekonsha so i guess i am partial ;)

I run a Prodigy on my Ranger, and having nothing but good things to say about it. BTW: it has a lever for manula brake control if needed.

I have a prodigy in my Chevy. It has worked well for the up to 7000lb loads I have pulled which also included some steep twisty mountain down hill sections. I cant really compare it to any others as it is the only one I have used to control trailer brakes. It will lock up all 4 tires on the trailer if I get on the brakes to hard and forget to readjust after dropping the load off. I am hppy with it and the plug and play made it nice as well.

A bit late, but I've got also got a Prodigy. My friend recommended it to me when I was looking to purchase one and I've been very happy with it.
