i posted a thread about having trouble shifting gears and i think this may be my problem since when i press the brake pedal to shift out of park my brake light flutter. thankfully not when i brake while driving though. anyway, can i get a brake light switch at a local auto store or is this a dealer item? thanks

Yes, you should be able to pick up the brake switch from both the local parts store or the dealer. BUT, I went through three in 6 months from the auto parts because they kept going out. The last time I got the replacement from the dealer and I've had it in about 6 months.

how much did it run you? they can't be expensive.

I think it was $13.00 from the auto parts store, and $16.00 from the dealer.

thanks, i'll just pick one up from a dealer today. i'm sure they have it in stock. thanks again

Just wondering if mine needs replacing, when braking i can hear the brake lights clicking on and off when my foot is only applying an average amount of preasure to the brake pedal but in other cars i have driven the brake lights stay on until the brake pedal is released completely. Is this normal on the "X" or should i get a new brake switch.

my lights were flickering too. they should be on at all times with the slightest pressure put on them. sounds like a new brake switch may be needed. pretty easy to replace, but a pain in the a** to fit under the dash. slide in on your back and put the seat back as far as you can. mine turned out to be not the brake switch, but the wires that go to it. they were falling out. how they got like that i'll never know. but a cheap fix for only $12 or whatever it was from ford for the switch which i replaced anyway. good luck.

thanks i'll let you know!
