I have a 93 Explorer and for some reason the brake lights aren't working.

If I turn the car lights on then they light up, the blinkers still turn on too, it's just when you press the brake the lights don't come on during the day and at night they don't become brighter.

I have no idea what is wrong with them, I replaced the bulb even though the other ones still lit up. If someone can give me some advice as to what the prob may be that would be great.
Thanks.

First off check the fuse. Probably is a bad brake switch (located above brake pedal).

I checked all the fuses located to the left of the steering column and they all appeared to be in good condition.

What is a brake switch, I have never heard of that?

make sure the wires arent messed up anywhere

Take a multimeter and measure voltage at the brake lights also. Did you buy dual filament bulbs to replace them with?

The brake switch is on the pedal (kinda high up) and it sends power to the brakes when the pedal is pressed. They can go bad. 5 minute fix though. It may be called a stoplight switch at some places.
