Yesterday I was replacing my rear brake caliper on my 2012 XLT.
However on the brake hose that goes from the caliper up to the connection in the wheel well I noticed that i could not get that flare nut screwed in and it looked to be stripped.

So I cut the flare nut off of the brake line. Now i am having a terrible time finding a flare nut that works at any local stores. Does anyone know the size of that nut? Was supposed to leave on vacation tomorrow but if its some type of custom size I will have to see if I can get one from the dealer.

Welcome to the Forum.
I don't recall this issue coming up before on the Forum. Perhaps someone with a Maintenance Manual will be able to help, otherwise a dealer is a good place to start.
Good luck.

Peter

I found a threaded screw that works however I wonder if the brake line is some type of non standard metric and not 3/16 because it doesn't thread through the hole

If you cut the nut off the steel line you may need a double flaring tool as well to put it back together.

Yep that is the size steel nut I bought. However what size is brake line because the nut I bought has 3/16 hole and it doesn't fit. I was attempting to get this done today because I was supposed to leave on vacation tomorrow morning

Did you cut it off of the flex hose? If you did I would just replace the whole hose. If not what line did you cut?

A parts house might have the hose or you just may need to go to the dealer.

It wasn't the flex hose it was the brake line that comes from under the truck and towards the top of the wheel well.

I do have some tooling to do a double flare. However might be easier to replace the whole line. Because the brake line is bent 90 degrees and not enough room to barely get the flare nut and the flare tooling on it. I will see what Ford says in the morning. Hopefully they will have something in stock and i can get it fixed and hit the road to TN.

take off the entire line if its not too long and take it to a well stocked parts store, they can match it up and if you end up with a longer one just make a few loops and call it a day and properly fix it later. That way you you wont have to flare anything, hopefully the line has the same fittings at both ends on the Explorer

Hey everyone,

I have a 2013 Sport and I was replacing pads and rotors and decided to replace the rubber hose section with SS Braided hose. The passenger rear hardline was relatively easy to unthread however the line just wouldn't let go as of the last few threads were some how damaged. I managed to get the flex line off clean up the hard line end best I could and thread it into my braided line however it just won't seal. So I grabbed a 3/16 m10x 1.0 fitting and my flare kit to put a new end on it. Low and behold it won't fit. The 3/16 ends just won't go on and the 1/4" seem way too large. I called my local Ford dealer and they can't help me aside from selling me the $185 fuel/brake line assembly. Does anyone know if these are metric hard lines or where I can source just that fitting?

Thanks!

Brake line troubles

Hi Mike. I moved your thread to this one which seems to be about a similar issue. Good luck.

I seem to have fixed the leak. I used a razor blade to remove the coating and the brake line then fit my 3/16 flare nut. Did my double flare and now I'm bleeding the system
