I am new to this computer life. I have tried searching every where and get conflicting information. I am working on a 1994 ford ranger 4X4 with 4 litre engine. We have to replace all brake tubing and flex lines front to back. The parts store have asked us these questions.

what size brake tubing do we need? what size fittings do we need?

i have been given the following dimensions tubing 3/16 1/4 and 3/8 and fittings are 3/8 3/16 . Our plan is to buy 25 feet of tubing and fittings to do the job. My mechanic recommends no splicing as its not DOT approved.
we were told to run 3/16 tubing with 3/8 fittings. First off is it possible tohave a fitting size different than the tubing size? What size line do we need ? what size and how many fittings ? or are these trucks just a mishmash of tubing size and fitting size. any claification would help as the parts supplier is as confused as we are.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the Ranger section. You will need a tubing bender, and a flare tool. Don't use compression fittings on the lines even though they are easier to install.

The brake line is 3/16", as for the fittings; they are 3/16" (hole for the brake line) 3/8" outer dimension of hex sides, so that you would use a 3/8" wrench to tighten them.

You will need to double flare the ends of the steel brake line (don't forget to put the threaded coupling on the line before you flare the ends...)

A double flare is not difficult to do, just make sure you have a good (not cheap) flaring tool.

I'm not sure what you mean here... but the brake lines from the factory sometimes are not 1 continuous run, they are connected with double flared threaded unions. I prefer to buy the straight lengths because they look better than the rolled stuff after it's unrolled. Usually only 1 union is needed on the length that runs to the back of the truck, which is often how the factory does it.
