Brake pad recommendation needed

Will be coming up on brake pad replacement time for my 2020 Explorer XLT. It's been a while since I've done this. Is ceramic still the thing? Looking for as little dust as possible. Has anyone had good luck with a particular pad? Also noticed that with the new electric parking brake thing, it it still a DIY thing, or does a professional have to do the brake jobs now? Thanks.

You’ll need a tool to put the car into maintenance mode to replace the rear brake pad, and you have to do it a really specific way unless you’ll trigger some codes. Honestly, unless you’re 100% sure you could deal with the electronic side, I would find a good price for a good shop to do it for you, it might be best to go that way.

Guess I should’ve been more specific but I meant an OBD2 adapter to put it in brake maintenance mode. Looking at that article though, it looks to me like you don’t need Forscan to turn the mode on, never saw that before.

There are lots of videos on putting the vehicle in brake maintenance mode. Probably not the exact same for all Ford vehicles. I watched a few and there were some slight differences. Still it was good to see it done. Appreciate the tutorial posted in the thread. A bit out of my comfort zone, but looks doable.

On the 2020 XLTs is it necessary to do the "brake pedal press" step at the end or is that for 2021s and up?

2020 and 2021 should be the same.

It’s going to be the same process for all 20-24 Explorers.
