I guess this is more of a survey than anything else. How long does a set of brake pads last y'all? Mine's almost at 102K, and to my knowledge, it has never had a brake job. All indications are that they are just fine; no squealing, no grinding, no pulsating, nothing. Stopping distances seem fine, too. The rotors have a few fine lines on them, but no deep gouges or anything like that. I'm thinking of just going ahead and doing a brake job, maybe bearings, too. By now it must need something, just due to the age of the vehicle.

I'll check those out, where do you get them?

I'd replace the rotors, make sure you grease the slide pins for the calipers as well. I'm not sure if you planned on it but doesn't hurt to meantion it.

I'm debating on whether to do a brake job myself or have a shop do it. The pad replacement is easy, but what about turning the rotors? I'm doing this at my parent's house, and I don't think there's a machine shop nearby. I got a quote from an independant mechanic that I've been to before, $421.31!! Granted, he did say that was a "worst case" price. This is probably a cardinal sin here, but maybe I should check out Just Brakes for a price. I also need to replace my shocks, which I'll almost certainly do myself.

save the money and do the brakes its so easy and orielys turns rotors for like $8

That price is outrageous; do it yourself. A brake job is easier than replacing the shocks.

Good luck ...

Really?! Hot damn, there just so happens to be an O'Reilly's where my parents live. Thanks a lot!

About the shocks, I'm looking for a set that will replicate the stock ride, or come pretty darn close. I use my Ex as a daily driver and for family trips, with occasional light towing and hauling. What do y'all think will fit the bill?

Damn, $421?? Just do it yourself. I recently replaced my pads, and rotors (all top of the line parts too) and it was about $120.

If you do replace the pads i highly recommend Hawk pads, they are a great choice.

Damn, they don't list pads for an Aviator:(

Brake pad life is inversely proportional to use. The more you use them, teh less life they have. I've seen cars go 200K of freeway driving, and I've seen cabs eat through 'em in 10k. It simply depends on how much you use them.

Makes sense. I'm pretty easy on brakes, and it was mostly used on the highway in it's previous life.

I'm waiting for my power slot cryo rotors from "buy brakes.com "and I was going to put the HAWK HB287-571's up front but they recommended using the HAWK HB 283Y-650 LTS because they're not as noisy and far less dusty but they say to use the former in the rear .They also have what seems to be reasonable Calipers as well would anyone have any thoughts ?? Cheers Foxy
