I'm getting ready to do the brakes on my '92. I plan to mail order the parts. Are there any manufacturers that are recommended, or ones to avoid?
The choices are Raybestos, Beck-Arnley, Bendix and some others.

What is better riveted or molded brake shoes and pads?

Thanks.

Avoid the riveted pads. The rivets will eventually ruin the rotors. Get Performance Friction carbon metallic, or Wagner's SX series severe duty semi metallic pads. They also have a severe duty carbon metallic pad, but I haven't used it. Some brands make ceramic low dust pads which are cleaner for rims. Check the product review section for more information.

Peronally, we only run Performance Friction pads. We ran the raybestos pads once. They were supposed to be "new", not rebuilt. One of the raybestos pads seperated from the backing plate and the rivots dug into the rotors. Also, from looking at the backing plates I could see that they were not "new". They were rebuilds.

Since then, I have never tried raybestos.. I just keep using the performance frictions pads.

Thanks, guys! I read the product reviews, too. Very interesting. I found the Hawk pads at Summit Racing, but where can I get the Performance Friction pads and the Powerslot rotors?

Also, any opinions on best, but moderately-priced rear shoes and drums?

Thanks again.

I buy my stuff at NAPA. I buy the middle grade stuff. They stop the car fine. Check them at about 30K miles and you will never have to worry about Rivits ruining anything.
