Before I go whining about it to the dealership, lemme ask you guys about this. When I want to slow down or stop, and I first step on the brakes, they're effective. BUT...there's more pedal travel than there is on subsequent pumps of the pedal. In other words, if I step on the brake three times within a few seconds of each other, the brake pedal is stronger and more effective, and travels less, with each pump. On other vehicles I've had, as well as the other car (Jeep Liberty) that we have now, I think the brake pedal only acts that way the very first time you step on the brake after start-up, and then the brake feel is always the same. There's no idiot light or fluid leak that I can find, nor any noise that would lead me to believe there's a vacuum leak. I've never had a vehicle with all the bells and whistles before (4-wheel disc, 4-wheel anti-lock, TPMS, RSC, AdvanceTrac, etc.), so maybe this is par for the course. I just don't know.
Is this the way your Explorer's brake pedal behaves?
