Hello all

I have a 2009 Ford Explorer XLT 4wd. Still under full factory warranty.

Today part or all of the brake pedal assembly failed causing a car accident.

Essentially what is happening is the brake pedal sways left to right to the point that is comes extremely close to covering the gas pedal!

The insurance adjuster was horrified when they examined it and immediately blamed it on the cause of the accident.

When the Ford dealer service dept. looked at it they were horrified also and were shocked that the brake pedal was swinging like a pendulum on a clock!

Luckily my insurance covers all the damage and since I can prove a malfunction I will be able to fight the insurance surcharges. I will be going after Ford for my deductible though!

Anyone ever heard of this happening?

It does have adjustable pedals, but they are only adjust front to back.

There is no adjustment from left to right.

that is correct they slide on a cylinder, with a guild on top, the pedal has a notch in it to prevent it from going left and right.

non adjustable pedals cant break like that. only adjustable.

Well I got it back on Friday. Ford replaced the brake and gas pedal assembly under warranty.

Now it has to go back because they did a hack job of re-installing any wiring that needed to be moved as part of the work.

There is also a chirping noise under the dash in that area since the work has been done.
