My cruise control is inoperative. I get a p1703 when I do a Key on engine on self test. There are two switches visible on the brake pedal. One is the blue and white one. The one I am referring to is all black and i need to know how it is installed. They haynes manual refers to a bushing and "push rod". I removed the switch and have a black bushing, a white washer and a green spring clip but don't see anything that looks like a "push rod". When I manually operate the switch I hear a relay click so I know it works. I don't recall hearing that click before but I may not have noticed.

Rock auto has the switch in question:

What I need is help figuring out how the switch is supposed to be mounted. The green spring retaining clip is what holds the switch on to the pedal assembly - it's sort of a spring loaded cotter pin. I removed that and the white plastic washer fell off. You have to slide the switch off the stud on the brake pedal and then you can slide the bushing off the stud as well.

Since it's under the dash I had a hard time seeing exactly how it goes on and now am having trouble getting it on properly although since it's throwing a dtc I think it might not have been correctly installed. There is an aftermarket remote start wired into the system and the installers might have screwed this up.

Does anyone have a photo of how this switch is supposed to be installed? Or what exactly the "posh rod" is? The haynes manual has a picture but it's not detailed enough to help. I should have taken a pic before I screwed with it.

Update. I figured it out. The pushrod is the thing the brake pedal shoves into the firewall and it actuates the switch. The bushing fits over the stud and inside the hole in the pushrod which is the part I didn't understand. Then you slide the switch over the stud between the head of the bushing and the pushrod. The white spacer washer goes on to hold the whole thing together and the clip goes through a hole outside that to hold the whole mess together. The switch in working fine and the problem with the cruise control remains unsolved but at least my brake lights work.
