2002 Ford ranger 4.0L V6
Howdy, I am in the process of replacing the Brake Master Cylinder on my 2002 Ranger 4.0L V6. Now then on top of the cylinder by the reservoir is what I have always thought was the brake pressure switch and looking at schematics and such leads me to believe I am correct.

The thing is trying to find a new replacement. I have looked all over including the Ford genuine parts website and all I can come up with is the connector for the pressure switch.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement online or know the Ford part number for the brake pressure switch because trying to find one is making me nuts. I called the local ford dealer and they were no help at all.

Many thanks in advance for any help on this

Brake Pressure Switch is now Spd control Deactivation Switch

I just did some looking around and found some interesting info on Ford brake pressure switches. Just type "Speed control deactivation switch 2002 Ranger" into Google and voila! Up jumps a whole bunch of info involving a Ford recall, the new wiring harness and part numbers. Better yet, there is also several posts right here on the forum from members that we all know and trust. Just use the "search" function in the blue bar at top of the forum page.

Hi FLwireman and thanks for the reply. I already had the switch recall thing done a few years back so that is no longer a problem.

As I am swapping out the Brake Master Cylinder all I want is a new switch to install as well but finding one is proving to be rather difficult.

Doesn't matter what I type in, Brake Pressure Switch produces nothing and Speed Control Deactivation switch just throws up stuff about the recall.

Hi swshawaii and thanks for the reply unfortunately that is not the part. Never mind, I think I will just remove the master cylinder and take it down to the Ford shop and ask them what the hell they call it and where do I get one.

Up to now I have seen it called three different names.

Cruise Control Release Switch

Well guys I finally found what I am looking for. They now call it the "Cruise Control Release Switch"

Many thanks for taking the time to help me out here.

The Ford part comes with the switch. I have one sitting here waiting to go in my 2001. I've never seen one from Ford that didn't come with the switch.

But it sounds like you found the switch you need.

Hello everyone, I found this forum while looking for information and I was LOST until now, maybe.

I just bought a 2003 Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 and the cruise doesn't work. I checked continuity on the cruise control switch that is screwed into the bottom of the master cylinder and no continuity so I assume it's bad.

I went to the auto parts store to buy a replacement switch but EVERY one we found has a different harness than mine. We even checked Fords parts catalog online and no luck.

From reading here I gather that my Explorer must have been involved in the recall?
This is the newest car I have ever owned and I've never dealt with a recall before. Will a Ford dealer still replace mine for free?

Here are pictures of the connectors on my harness
