Could it be that the brakes are working too well and locking up the wheel?

What kind of rotors did you get? Who makes them? If they aren't that high of quality - they can be un-true straight from the factory (we usually have to machine our new rotors), but this can cause the pad to stick and give you a clunk noise when braking. But that'll usually happen throughout all speeds while braking. You may want to consider cleaning your ABS sensors and maybe testing them.

Is the Sport 2WD, or 4WD? That ABS sensor problem almost never happens with a 4WD 95+ Explorer, because the sensor is attached to the hub.

The 2WD rotors have an air gap to the ABS sensor. Those are easier to accidently cause the ABS sensor to be moved, or get dirty. Do clean around the ABS sensors carefully, and make sure they are aligned properly. Are you feeling anything through the brake pedal, like ABS pulsing? Good luck,

its a 2001 sport 2wd... the rotors are power slot ...there just sloted not drilled... and where are the abs sensors at.... and how would i align them properly and clean them.. sorry im new to brakes and i dont want to pay this guy $1000 to clean or align them and tell me it was something else... it sounds like its coming from my right front though... thats why i replaced my rotors and pads my right side pads were shot and my rotors were hacked up.... and it doesnt happen at all speeds .. it happens just when im about to stop around 3-5 mph...it never did this before.. just when i changed the brakes out...and i really dont feel pulsing but when it happens the pedal does wierd things under 5 mph.... it goes way down in 3 step intervals so would it go out just as i change the brakes... does that happen often... thanks for your help guys... i have no suv till i figure this out...

That sounds very very expensive. Get other quotes for the same job, if want someone else to fix problem. Never go to one person for repair price.

The pulsating tells me that the ABS is operating at that time. That definately points to the ABS sensor locations where you did brake work. The ABS sensors are not bad, or else the ABS would not function.

The rotors are supposed to be made to precisely locate the ring which the ABS sensors monitor. The rotors may be at fault, but other members have experienced those symptoms also. It appears that usually something happens to the ABS sensors. They are either removed and not perfectly replaced, or they have too much debri stuck to them, etc.

The ABS sensor is attached with a small bolt which often is difficult to remove. Try looking carefully at the sensor, carefully wiping it, check it for any looseness, or movement. Also look carefully at the rotor's ABS rings, see if they look straight and true, a close distance from the sensors. If there is something there, then reassemble it and test.

If you do not see anything wrong, you might consider removing, and carefully replacing the ABS sensor(s). If nothing is apparantly wrong, the rotors ABS rings may not be aligned(manufactured) properly. Retrying the original rotors could confirm that. Good luck,

Recently I replaced all my brake pads, rotors, the works. Did this because my ABS light would come on and off, sometimes the brakes would kick back a little. I cleaned all the sensors, check them twice and I still have the light and my ABS comes and goes when ever they want to. It will work for a time- 10 miles then the light comes on. Other times I'm driving with the light on, then I go to brake, they don't work, then drive on then it goes out. This is driving me crazy. Its a 2005, XLT, 4Dr, 2WD. Can anyone help me get this problem solved????? PS I have tried and read all the situations that were posted- to no avail
