Hi everyone, I finally have a problem I need to ask a question for about my '94 Ranger. I was trying to solve a problem with my brake lights coming on unexpectedly, faulty switch is shorting out. Anyway, in the process of putting the switch back on the pedal arm, I broke a piece of plastic above the brake that covered another switch! This switch is a small white push in switch under the dash assembly. Any help identifieing this would be a great relief for me. Thanks for all your help past and present. I love this site!

That's your dump valve switch/activation plate which turns off the cruise control when you step on the brake. If your CC does not work anyway, and you don't care to have it, you probably need to do nothing. Do a search on "dump valve" for more info.

Thanks. I think I'll fix it. Cruise control is nice on the long drives.

The cruise control, like the ABS is controlled by the third brake light. When there is voltage through it, it shuts off the cruise.

I found that out a while back when I had put some plug and play LEDs in my brake lights. When I turned on the lights, the resistance was so low that I would get the third brake coming on dimly as well. This was enough to make the cruise inoperable when my lights were on. I even tried turning them on while using my cruise. Cruise would immediately shut off, turn off the lights, I could hit the resume button and cruise would reactivate.
