braking with the gears

Is it bad for the X if you brake with the gears? sometimes(since my pands are worn and I haven't gotten around to changing them) I'll just take it out of OD or if I'm not at highway speeds put it in 2nd or 1st... Especially in parking lots, I'll just put it in first and drive where I have to go, if it's just across the lot. Also, is there any difference between braking with the gears and engine braking? are those two terms synonimous? thanks

there the same thing, i think your actually supposed to do it. but i do the same thing as well.

I like doing it because it sounds good with my flowmaster exhaust mmmmmm back pressure. hehe. Anyway, that wont cause any unnecessary wear on the tranny, will it?
