So I had the unfortunate happen and broke a spindle stud. Who knew that attempting to crank 100ft-lbs on those things was not advisable. I have since checked my manual and 40-50 is more appropriate.

Has anyone found a source for these? I'm afraid to check the dealer but that might be my last resort. I stretched the other 4 as well so I'm in need of a full set. One of these days I'll learn to find specs before working...

Discontinued at the dealer as of 8/29/12. Looks like I'm just going to snag some grade 8 10mm bolts then.

IIRC they are the same as the TTB D44. Jeff's bronco graveyard has them for around $4 each.

D44 ones are 3/8" and the Explorer's are 10mm. Not sure if that's going to make a difference. Any idea on length?

By "spindle stud" do you mean the wheel studs?
I can't remember if they are pressed into the rotors or a plate.
I'm going to the yard today and was going to get a few spares myself.
I'll get more than 5 if you're interested.
I can get more next trip.

No, not the wheel studs. These hold the spindle to the knuckle. I'm going to try the regular bolt route and if that doesn't work I'll run to the pick n pull and pound a few out.

Thanks for the offer though.

I picked up some 3/8X1 1/4 grade 8 bolts, nuts, and some loctite last night. I put two in to check for clearance and all looks good. I'm going going to replace the opposing side as I'm pretty sure they're overtorqued as well. If the rest goes well I'll be back in business tonight.

Wouldn't grabbing some from a junk yard be easier? Just grab an entire set..

Of course, I can't picture how they are held in on the back side of the knuckle so I may just be smoking crack here.

It would be but I don't really want to drive an hour and a half for 5 bolts. The ones I picked up serve the same purpose, seem stronger, and in the long run much cheaper.

Seems like it would be a hassle to use hex bolts instead of non-spinning studs on such an application.

Even if the studs for the 91-94 are discontinued, surely there are studs for other vehicles that have the same measurements. Ranger/Bronco II/etc.

I would think if nothing else you could get 10mm studs at an auto parts store, or SOMEwhere on the internet.
