Those of you who have performed the brown wire mod,
did you notice SIGNIFICANT handeling differances ?
I did the mod this weekend and I feel a huge conrering differance.
I understand with not having the front wheels pull any more things will feel different. I was not expecting this much.
Comments ?

This doesn't apply to you. You have AWD. Not the control trac system.

I find no difference switching between 2WD and Auto. That could be me though.

ohh putting a swith on the tranfer case motor to shut it off??

ya 5.0X thats what the brown wire mod does

i did mine 3 months ago, haven't noticed that big of difference, but ya ur losing that front pull, its only pushing, i use to drive a real wheel drive car, so i guess didn't seem like that big of a change for me, in the rain u'll notice the difference real quick, fish tailing though, on dry surface though na doesn't bother me a bit, i prefer the 2wd only option that the mod gave me, i know what its going to do, i'm controling the truck not it taking control of itself, u know. might just be me,

I dunno it is kinda freaky. It feels more exagerated I guess.
With the Edelbroc IAC shocks I get a lot more road feel than the stock shocks.
So that plays into it I guess.
I gotta flip it back and get used to it I guess. I look forward to the additional MPG's

I did the mod, and right now, I don't even have a switch on the wire. 2wd only. When it goes to the dealer, I switch it on to prevent unnecessary charges for something that wasn/t broken. I only switch to 4wd in the winter when it is absolutely necessary.

It has been so long since I have had it in 4wd, but I'm sure there was a significant difference in handling. A 4wd handles much different than a 2wd. It may reduce rollover risk to some extent by not having the front wheels pull.

I haven't really noticed any more mpg's, but then again I am all city driving and am young. I enjoy driving like a grandma, but have to give it some gas every once in a while.

well i'm not super young, at least don't feel like i am, but i haven't gotten any extra MPG, mainly just did it so i have 2wd, and 2LO, to use on the trails, have fun with it, and just watch out the first time ur in the rain with it, enjoy,

well I am gettin' old ( er ) and I stomp on it just about every opportunity :D

Yeah, I mainly use it for doughnuts in the winter :D

They're even more fun if you have a limited slip :D Gets scary sometime though!

I was driving almost sideways in a Home depot parking lot once. I went for about 30 feet. It was total ice. I checked for dry spots first. I was looking at my friends Ex while going sideways. It was a really cool feeling. I think it was in 4wd though. If I did hit a dry spot, it wouldn't have been pretty.

I am happy I did the mod. Gives me more control over stuff. All the new cars have all this automatic crap so all you have to do is just start it and drive. Options are what I like.

IF any one has a 99 X can you help me out with some questions on this Brown wire mod. I did the mod but it doesn't seem to work right for me. I used a switch and a relay. Brown wire is the solid wire under the driver's correct. Well that's the one I cut because it went straight to the T-Case. However when I put my Truck on Jack stands and ran it I did not get 2wd. When the switch was off the rear wheels spun and the front would kick in at 25 mph, when I flip the switch on it engaged the front wheels righ away with out me having to hit the gas. Can anyone help me out?

When I had mine on stands all four actually spun in the off position.
A gentle touch to the front wheels and they would stop with out a lot of pressure.
Click it into the on position and the same gentle pressure would not hold them.
I would not recomend grabing the wheel and forcefully stoping it.
I was still some what unsure if I had done it correctly till this evening.
It is raining so I fliped the switch and stomped on it.
Back end just spun it's a** off.
Clicked it back into four and I wnet on home.

FYI I did not use a relay.

yeah I tried stopping the wheels both in the on and off switch position, niether worked. So I just drove off for the day and said the hell with it. But I put my truck back on the stands later that day and ran it again and suddenly I have 2wd. So it works now..........hell yeah!!!

Question for ya MONMIX........How is that Apten Chip working for ya, and do you have any info on it that you can give me, like stats and prices? thanks

www.apten-us.com ( if I am not mistaken )
I LOVE the chip.
Do a search you will find zillions of posts praising them.
Put my name in and you will get my own thoughts ( neat how search works )
They are costly I will admit, but to see this heavy a** SUV scoot like it does is worth it to me.
All that and better MPG's to boot !!!!!!!!!

I love the apten also. That and the brown wire mod make for some squealing I just can't prevent :D

whatz the best kind of switch and amp rating?

A 10 Amp Rating works fine, I prefer a simple switch. Just a plain stainless steel on-off switch works perfectly
