Hey guys, I may have scuffed the curb with my nice new 20" polished factory rim on my explorer. Does anyone know if it's possible to polish out the gash.. It's about 2" long and maybe 1/8" at the deepest.

I live in Seattle so if anyone know of any good bodyshops around here id appreciate the referral!

Hi there. We're a long way from Seattle...in fact about as far as you can get without going to Cuba...but we have had a similar experience with our Mustang :( and were able to get the rims repaired for a little under $150 each. Can be less though if the gash is very minor...what you are describing might take a little filling though..as did ours. Unfortunately that curb really got us!! Not sure what it will run you in Washington but the guy who did it for us works for Mercedes and does the rims in his spare time. Local Ford body shop quoted us more and this guy did it in an hour and back to factory new. Bit pricey, but the Mustang is my hubby's baby, so we took care of it. We have the wheel protection on the Mustang...but darn it if these curb bites are not covered!!
Good luck!-

Thanks toddy! Can you pm me his info. I'd like to see if he knows anyone out here who does that same thing.

Liratoad, my attention that you mention that Cuba make that work, it's serious or a joke, just curious, Greetings

I think the point is that Nitzer is in Seattle and she's in the Florida Keys so the next land mass further away from Nitzer in Toddy's direction is Cuba.

Tavin, I did not mean to offend. Since95 is correct. I was simply referring to the geographic distance between Florida and Seattle. Though we are all connected online, we are physically located all over the map and some members internationally.

Nitzer, the guy we used is apparently no longer with Mercedes (which I didn't know) and we don't have his private contact info. But I bet if you look at local body and tire shops that sell rims, you could find some folks. Supposedly, there are even mobile outfits that will come to you at home or at work and fix it but I've never looked into it. It is handy to build a good relationship with a body shop though.
Good luck-

Most definitely important to build a good relationship! My explorer is my baby girl!! Lol

Thanks toddy!

With that big a gouge, I would be more worried about a bent or cracked wheel. Go to your local truck stop. There are usually guys there polishing wheels.
