I have a 91 bumper (rear) on my 96, fit with no problems, except some minor modifications to allow the license plate lights to make it out to where they should be.
are you talking about a front or rear bumper?? and are you talking about a 95-98 or 99-01?? im guessing the bolt pattern is correct to bolt on but not sure if the line of the header panel will hit... also not sure if it would look right......

anyone tried this, pics???
thanks
The rear bumber does as stated above by redShift. As for the front, I don't think they are just a bolt up application. Weren't the frames designed differently between the generations therefore changing the mounting bolt locations? I don't think the 2nd gen style would look good on a 1st gen X anyway. The bumper would be too round to match the boxy lines of the 1st gens.
