Has anyone successfully added piping from the lower bumper airway up to the stock airbox to increase cold air flow? If so, what tubing material did you use. Post pictures if possible. thanks

PVC would be great WRT cost, durability, lower heat tranfer than metal, but doesn't look as good and may be difficult in routing, anyone else?

I don't know how much room is back there, but sheet metal would be easy to form into box type shapes. I mean this stuff like 20-22 guage or something. It would be cheap to do if it would fit.

I've heard that PVC can be harmful in the long run to the engine. I dont know how true it is, but something with the fumes the piping can give off with heat.

It's not going to be easy. I once found this piping that was sectioned in such a way that you could rotate a section a bit then the one after that and so on until you had it the shape you wanted. I don't know who made it, and I don't know where to get it now. I saw it in an import speed shop in Paducah KY. the pipe was really cool. I wanted to buy yards of it to have. but I was a poor college kid and I moved shortly after. Sorry I can't be more help.
If you canb't locate that, try fiberglass.

wow would fiberglass ever be hard

The only piping I know of with turnable sections is vent piping for stoves and things. Its about 4" in diameter though. I don't see how that would fit.

I assume the stuff in the speed shop was a smaller diameter. Maybe a home depot or lowes might have something simiar for cheap.

21/2 inch shopvac hose worked for me

That's not going to do anything for except increase ur chances of sucking water into ur manifold...wow wouldn't that be GREAT! PVC wouldn't damage it, yet it wont do ne thing performance wise for it, save the money and spend it on something useful, my $.02

Is now way to tell (I:E on a Dyno) I do monitor IAT in real time with my scangauge, at freeway speeds My IAT is right at ambiant.
As a rule of thumb, for every 10 degrees you can lower IAT, you will pick up 1% more H.P, small but more nevertheless

if you dino it isnt the explorer standing still on the dino even then you still couldnt show any gains

Believing in automotive science as I do, my next Mod, for my next Dyno run, should prove a point

LOL, that's dang funny, but I bet there will be some difference, those push a lot of air around. Interesting.

That is friggin hillarious. :D :D .but on a twisted note. :p .would actually work on a dyno test.  :D .that is friggin insanely funny   :D

damn Spin'
you can sell those on E-bay and make tons of money !!!!!!!!!!!!

X-Box (13 Second explorer) made this mod with his airbox and said it was one of the best things he did. Heat seriously kills the s/c. He just used his stock airbox and some dryer vent hose from Home Depot. Cheap and he said it made a nice difference, but I've got no clue for a N/A truck.

Actually, I am modifying an elevated skateboard, mounted via an outrigger so I can run the Shindawa yardblower fulltime, but am having problems with the bearings, will keep all posted, I estimate an additional 12 RWHP, 8 lbs of TQ
Pls all members, keep this Mod under your hats, this could just become a great thing
