Burnouts? Proper way to do it?

I haven't ever tried to do a burnout in my Ex. But I have noticed that in every truck I've ever driven, if you put it in reverse and floor it, you get some squealing. My driveway is long and goes uphill (as you leave the garage, up to the street). If I start from the back end and floor it all the way out, I can catch just a little air, and when I catch asphault again, my BFG's chirp. But as far as smoking, I'm afraid :smoke: is the best I can do.

Gimp - Yeah, I did that once with my mom's '97 Expedition. She doesn't know about that... That's probably why it needs what the dealer is calling a "soft rebuild" after only (?) 108,000 miles.

Don't mature too quickly. ;)

I read my old post in this thread and I still stand by it. :D

i dunt know, i enjoy spinning my tires from time to time. brake stands arnt nearly as bad as neutral drops but they are still not a good thing. brake stands will really hurt your drive train.
ive only done a neutral drop once in my explorer. i spun the crap outa my tires. but once and only once. for neutral drops are how i destroyed my corrola. id stop at a stop sign faceing up hill and put it in neutral. start drifting back about 20 feet while flooring it then slam it into drive. poor car. i abused that thing. but yeh.
the least harmful way to lay rubber is just to floor it around a corner and get all sideways.
i just got my car fixed actually from doing that. the front sway bar bracket broke and the rear sway bar snapped in half. im mean to cars i know. if it seems i am rambling its becuase i am sleep deprived and bored at work

what about burnouts at the grag races? like after i drive through the waterbox? i think these will not harm anything other than the tires, and possibly u joints and stuff when they stop spinning...i am going to put a line lock on and rtace

dont do brake torques unless u wanna hurt the tranny....im convinced that this was why mine screwed up a few months ago and since then i've quit, i'll only get a lil sideways when the roads are damp but its killin the rubber on my bfgs so im havin to stop doing that...n e ways me and one of my friends found out that we could do burn outs in reverse by just floorin it from a stop but we couldnt do them goin forward, so we tried brake torquing it for i dunno maybe 10minutes and i just think the poor thing had all it could take....set me back over 200bux but i've calmed that habit down

in high school i never really did burnouts on purpose. i had a plymouth roadrunner and i tried to get the wheels to catch rather than spin. it was always cool when the tires grabbed and you got pinned to the seat. my other car at the time was a huge chevy suburban. that 350ci was powerful, but i felt that it looked stupid seeing something so big spinning the tires.
but when i bought a toyota tercel with a 4 speed manual (what a fun little car to drive) i spun them all the time. i would spin the front wheels for about 30 feet in first, then shift and they would spin a little in second too. i was really impressed how fast that little four cyl was.

does anyone else agree with this or am i a moron? [and i dont want you to actually answer the part about me being a moron :)]

The best burnout's I've ever done were with the Vette I just traded in on the Explorer..

The best way to do a burnout with it was, apply the brakes, give it some gas.. I don't care how hard you pressed the brakes, it was going to spin the tires.

The tires were wore out on it, and a friend wanted to see a smoke show, so I did atleast a 30 second burnout. Talk about ALOT of smoke, and this was with both rear tires (275/40ZR18's)spinning :D

Just out of curiosity, why would you get rid of a vette for a explorer. I had vette also and I miss it very much. It was a 96 white with black interior with the LT4 6 speed. Man I miss that car:(

The only line locks I've seen are for non-ABS cars only. May be hard to find an application that'll work with an Explorer.

i was looking around and i only have rear abs.... is a line lock possible?

Is that the way it works on the 1st Generation explorers? Only rear ABS? I've got a '93. I'm assuming if you've only got rear ABS it would work because nothing on the rear brakes is modified or touhed with a line lock. Basically you just wire in a swtich that will activate the front brakes only. If you only have rear ABS I don't see why it wouldn't work but then again I would probably check with the manufacturer.

Well my wife is pregnant with our 2nd.. (my son is 8) and we really needed more room, and your right, I miss my Vette alot..

burnout

if you really want to do it like the pros, use a Line Lock. This is a small box, about the size of a relay, it mounts on the master cylinder going to the front brakes. Once it's installed all you have to do is push in the brake, push the button (that you have to install) and let off the brakes. Now, nothing short of god could move the front tires. all you have to do is punch the gas and heat up the tires. When you are ready to go, all you do is hit the button again and it will release.

You still need to be very carfull while doing this, as the truck may want to kick out to one side. it will take some practice to get used to. i recomend getting in some dirt to practice.

BTW: you can get a line lock from summittracing.com (or yuor local Hot Rod shop) for about 35 to 40 dollars.

Have you seen a line lock for cars with ABS? I've only seen them for cars w/o ABS.

Steve

i only have rear abs....not in front... i think i can use a standard lineloc... am i wrong?

if you dont have front ABS, then it will work. if you have 4 wheel ABS, it will not work.

you have a 94, i thought 94s have 4 wheel ABS...

just couldn't resist..

Sorry guys, I just couldn't resist posting these links. I know it's a bit off topic, but still... It's not an Explorer, and not even a standstill burnout, but it's a 4x4 Audi Quattro, wich is quite heavy, and he's really burning some rubber...on all four... :D:D:D

burnout 1 mpg: small bigger
burnout 2 mpg: small bigger

If I remember correctly this car has around 700hp and a 50/50 front-rear distribution on the fourwheeldrive...

that is kinda disgusting there are people around and other cars... i dislike street racing..do i enjoy watching it yes, but i think it is dangerous as hell....
