Can anyone please tell me how far will 31x10.5x15's will stick out from the fenders when using with 8.5x10 rims. If the flares are used, will the tires will be more or less even ith the flares? thanks again

mflores,

I'm confused about your wheel size -- 8.5x10? Is this a misprint? Are you talking about 8.5" wide wheels, or 10" wide wheels? Please clarifiy.

I've used 31x10.50's on the stock 7" wheels. They don't "stick out" too far -- you don't need flares.

The amount the wheel sticks out is based on its backspacing. The stock wheel has a 4.5" backspacing, and most aftermarket wheels generally have less backspacing, i.e., they stick out farther than stock. So it depends on which brand wheel you use, most have a variety of backspacing, usually between 3.25" and 4.5".

With 31x10.50's on most 8" or 8.5" wheels, I personally don't think you need to run flares. But it does come down to one's personal preference. I think a 10" wheel with these tires is a bit much, it's easier to lose a bead when aired down, as well as damage the rim of your wheel on rocks or other obstacles on the trail.

Again, please clarify your intended wheel width.

Hey DOGMAN, Thanks for catching the mistake on the wheels size. I willl be using 8.5X15 centerline rims. Since I have the RANCHO lift, the rubbing will definitely increase if the stock rims are used with the 31's. That is why I need to know if flares willl be needed. Thanks again!!!!

mflores,

Which Centerline's are you going with? I've seen a 92 EB with 8.5" Centerline Hellcats and 32x11.50's and they looked great, no flares and he said he didn't have a rubbing problem. He was running a 5.5" lift, but since you're using 31's, the 2.5" lift should be perfect. Again, I don't think you'll need the flares. Besides, if after the install you feel you would like flares, you can always add them later. It will look more aggressive without flares with that tire and wheel combo. Those are sharp looking wheels.

You're doing a good job of researching your ideas before implementing them. Smart!

Also, what do you think of the Bosch +4 Platinum plugs? I just installed a set yesterday and they seem to do a good job, but I'll know more with more time.

Dogman,
What a great investment! The BoschPlat+4's are awsome. Check out this thread "WOW...New 4+plugs and Splitfire Wires"

Hey DOGMAN, thanks for your input regarding the flares. You are right, I could always add them to the truck if the need arises. I'll be using the CENTERLINE HT cast-wheels, and the tires will be the BRIDGSTONE A/T DUELERS (I really like these tires, previous experience, have 33's mounted on a Bronco II).I really like the HELLCATS but living on the northeast, I will end up with problems with the center caps due to the winter season). Anyway, I also installed the "perfect combo" (SPLITFIRE & BOSCH +4)last friday, and am very happy with the results.
Once again thanks for your responses.

GIGANTOR, just a ?.
I noticed that you are using the modified air box, can you tell me what was exactly done to it?. This weekend coming up I will be searching for a air box in the junkyard, (I rather experiment with a one from the junkyard in case the results are not what is expected) what are the gains, are there any side effects to it? (eg. noise,...etc.etc)

i am just wondering if you are required to run flares if your tires stick out a certain amount.

You definatley wont need fenders, however, I do want to get them since I recently got 31's. The seem to throw a lot of dirt into the door jam. With flares they would stay clean. But 31's dont stick out of the fenders at all. By the way, why not just use your factory rims until youe decide to go to at least a 32.

mflores -

With 31" and the flares, the tires will look small. If you don't have the flares, then it's not as noticeable. With flares, the 32" would look better. I had 31" on my '91 before I put on 32"s. It also had the Rancho 2.5" with slight mod for the 32". It looks and handles much better with the 32".
