Well, as I was just getting off the freeway anyway. Driving on the 5 freeway south getting off at Mcbean pkwy and as I start to brake the pedal goes to the floor. So I hit my nearly worthless ebrake which does stop me as I go into the intersection under a red light. I limp over to the side as a sheriff helps me get out of traffic. Looks like the cracked gap guard on the front passenger side was rubbing right where the soft brake line meets the hard. Fluid everywhere. Its kinda scary to know that a loss of pressure in a fairly delicate rubber hose could mean you wont be stopping your vehicle anytime soon.

my #1 worst fear......

glad you got er stopped safely tho.... could have been REAL bad

First of all I'm glad to hear nobody got hurt. THE day the wife and I singed life insuranse papers, she joked with me that now she can cut the brake lines on me. I went out that afternoon and wouldn't you know it, blew a flex hose. Trust me I inspected it really good!
Peace

get some stainless steel brake lines

Just curious
On the newer EXs, and for that matter, all newer cars, is not the braking system set up in such a way that all brake lines are independant.
Lose one,you don't lose the entire system?

May be independent in some way but there is still one fluid resevoir and when I was losing fluid from the front passenger line the resevoir was drained. Also when the line failed my brakes did work to a certain degree...if I stepped on them as hard as I could there was some pressure on the pads and I would stop...just not very quickly. Could be that the front is separate from the rear and a testament to the strength difference between front and rear brakes.

Update also on my issue, it was the hard line that had a hole just above the connection to the soft line. Seems it was rubbing on something metal, line is fixed now and we wrapped the line up with rubber pretty good in the rub spots.

I didn't need it but the dealer does sell new hard brake lines, but only as a set with cables and all kinds of connections for some lofty price, like $500.

Wow one of my worst fears when driving. Next to plowing over someone who jets out in front of truck. Think tomorrow I will do a brake line inspection!

had this happen to me after stopping short to mis a cat. I then accelerated and came to red light and bam pedal and floor become one. pumped pedal for pressure and nothing. I didn't want to E-brake cause there were cars on both sides of me and didnt want to go sideways.

So I drop down to 2nd then 1st and when i was only going 10-15 I used the e-brake , then I had it towed and proceded to have everuy part of the system replaced, rotors, pads, calipers, master cylinder, all new steelbraded hoses, new lines to the drums, and new lining for the drums. I didn't feel like risking anything else lol.

Where did you get the replacement part? I'm having a hell of time finding one.

I know how you feel. When I had a f-250 I went out and pushed the brake when i was starting it. It went all the way to the floor. I got out and looked under the truck and saw that the hard line going to the rear busted completly in half. Im just glad it happened at my house and not on the road.
