Hey guys, I'm new here and looking at a 98 Explorer Sport 4x4 with 4:10 rear gears, 4.0L SOHC and 90K miles. I was wondering if there is any certian problems pertaining to these models. I may have pictures later on today. I'll keep you updated. Has great power and nothing seems to be a miss with it.

Thanks guys

Check the service record and see what recalls have been done. Specifically, the timing chain tensioner will be expensive work if it hasn't already been done.

Many typical problems are low cost fixes: rear wiper motor fails, seat recliner handle breaks, rubber suspension bushings need to be replaced, but a few can be more expensive such as the timing chain and transmission problems (*moreso if it's been used to tow or wheel and/or the previous owner didn't service it).

Thanks..I'll ask about the tensioner today. It has no reciever hitch and there wasn't a ball in the bumper so I'm good to go on that token.

thanks Ritsui

Get a carfax report on it. Also, you can look at cars.com and see what similiar ones are going for. Usually the Sport model is less expensive than the 4drs.

Thanks guys....I've thought it over and I'm going to find a 4.0L SOHC Ranger so i have the cargo room.

thanks
