A few issues with a 90k mile 2003 Limited V8 I'm looking at buying:

1) The gear selector makes a loud click/clunk after a large bump like it is finally clicking into place when in D. Vehicle drives normally throughout. Only does it once after selecting D then not again, but does it every time.

2) Parking sensor button light is lit to "OFF" and pressing it makes no difference -- are the sensors shot?

That's about all I could find. Guy won't go under $10k which is still good for Canada. Silver with black leather interior, all in great shape. It has the side airbags and advance trac which is a big deal to me, along with the V8. Only one I've seen in a very long time with this combo.

Any ideas on the above?

One of the sensors is bad, stealership can tell you which one, or buy one new one and swap them out till you find the bad one. gotta pull the bumper though.

the shifter is just out of alignment if it keeps dropping into gear, was there any trans work done recently on her? re adjusting is very simple and i can show you with pics where its done from if needed. (there is a cable running from the shifter down to a lever on the trans, it has an adjustment on it so the needle lines up with the letters on the dash right, can be done with a flat head screw driver). IF your realy interested in this ride, go ahead and compromise and pick her up, neither of these issues should cost much to fix, and the limited 4x4 v8's are VERY hard to find...

Thanks that's very helpful. I am very interested in it and willing to overlook these things because as you say, it is a rare combination of features.

It is discounted because of them, other similar Explorers (but not exactly the same, usually a V6 without curtain airbags) are asking $12k+

Not serious issues... and if you're getting it for a couple grand less than market value, you've got some cash to play with for repairs.

I say giv'er.

it could be, but check the alligntment peice first.. the syptoms would be recurring if it was the broken shifter, he says it ONLY Does it once, that says alignment to me. does the needle sit RIGHT in the middle of the D? or is it slightly off to the left?

It looks slightly off. I'm getting a full inspection on it tomorrow and I'll ask the inspector to look at that specifically.
