I have a 1994 X while driving I get a buzzing noise from the front end, then when I go to stop, it sounds like the 4x4 engages/disengages, even though it is in 2 wheel drive. Then when I go to turn around, it's very hard to turn, like the tires are not turning, and the steering wheel is hard to turn. Any ideas?

If you still have automatic hubs I would start there. When the hubs go they can cause 4x4 engagment as well as disengagment problems. Make sure don't have any issues with your power steering pump either. I'm trying to think what might cause a buzzing like noise besides bees and these are the 2 things that come to mind.

Make sure your fanbelt is in good condition and is engaging the power steering pump properly.

I've got $10 that says that he's got automatic hubs, and another $20 that says they're bad. Any takers?

Didn't think so....

It's the hubs. Needs new autos to the tune of $300 each, or Warn manuals for $200 for the set. 'nuff said.

As gijoecam wrote is sounds like a classic case of autohubs going bad. My autohubs would buzz and rachet when turning. The sharper the turn the more the buzzing. The buzzing noise was a hub trying to lock on its own. If I I turned 4x4 on for a few secs to lock the hubs the noise went away as the hubs no longer floated from lock to unlock. I ended up removing the hubs and cleaning them completely out. They have worked fine ever since (2 yrs ago).
